Festival 2018 Will Bring 12 Days of Action-Packed Entertainment and Culture to Brisbane
You don’t have to be on the Gold Coast this April to celebrate the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, one of Australia’s largest sporting events that occurs every four years. Enjoy 12 action-packed days of free art and culture in Brisbane with Festival 2018, set to take place throughout the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games from April 4 to April 15.
Live music will play a big part of Festival 2018 in Brisbane, with the festival’s main hub located on South Bank. Look out for the huge lineup of performances from big names such as Heart Music, Regurgitator, Haiku Hands, Urthboy, Mihirangi, Electric Fields, The Verandah ChiX, Mau Power,, Sabrina Laurie and The Hunting Party, Abbe May, Tales and Ales, BANFF, Golden Vessel, Airling, Blak Friday, Mission Songs Project, The Creases, Stella Donnelly, Alex the Astronaut, The Preatures, Jeremy Neale, and lots more.
As well as live music, a number of circus and theatre performances will take place throughout Festival 2018 including “Alchemy”, “Revolve”, and “The Village”. Take the kids to enjoy special family-friendly shows “The Owl and the Pussycat”, “Megafauna”, and “String Symphony”. For those that love comedy, look out for comedians Diat Alferink and Sean Choolburra, as well as the “50 Shades of Black” show. Festival 2018 will also enjoy a number of dance performances from the Male Kiai Mura Buai Dance Company, Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers, Dance Masala, Kiribati Cultural Group, Alvin, D’Band Jahbutu, Murriwattana Dance Troupe, and Yalu Dad.
From April 6 until April 8 don’t miss 3 days of fun, laughter, and inspiration with WOW: Women of the World Festival, which will offer special performances, exhibitions, workshops, and inspiring stories. Those that enjoy bargain-hunting won’t want to miss several markets happening throughout Festival 2018. These include the Meeanjin Markets and the BNE DESIGN open-air markets which are well-worth browsing through!
On top of all the entertainment for Festival 2018, make sure to visit the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, which will feature brand new exhibitions including “Skylore: Stories in the Stars” and “Skylore: Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Astronomy”.
